Cotter, Peavey Recognized as Scholar-Athletes

Mackenzie Cotter and Kyle Peavey

On Monday, June 10th, two Madison Central School student-athletes were recognized by Section III for their commitment to athletics and academics. Seniors Mackenzie Cotter and Kyle Peavey were among 190 student-athletes honored at the 35th annual Section III Scholar Athlete dinner held at Onondaga Community College.

Attendees came from all over Section III, as each member school is permitted to nominate their top overall male and top overall female student-athlete for recognition. Each student receives a scholarship check in the amount of $100, a commemorative plaque and a scholar-athlete ¼ zip jacket.

Cotter is the 2024 Valedictorian at Madison Central School. She was a three season varsity athlete for all four years and participated in four different sports. Mackenzie was selected as a first team Central Counties League all-star in soccer, basketball, and softball. As a senior, she demonstrated tremendous versatility by participating in track and field. She will attend Binghamton University in the fall. Cotter is the daughter of Roxanne and William Cotter.

Peavey is the son of Colleen and Kurt Peavey. He holds a fifth place academic ranking in the Madison Class of 2024. Peavey was a three sport athlete participating in soccer, baseball, and wrestling. As a wrestler, he placed on four consecutive Section III Class D podiums and achieved over 100 career wins. He was also an All-Star infielder on the Madison baseball team.
