Reese Masker's winning Smokey Bear Poster
Reese Masker's Smokey Bear poster has been selected as the fifth-grade district winner and will now proceed to the next level of judging.
The Smokey Bear Poster Contest, sponsored jointly by the National Garden Clubs, Inc., and the US Forest Service, begins with local garden clubs, like the Sherrill Garden Club. Posters submitted by students in grades 1-5 are evaluated by the club members based on the representation of Smokey and contain the slogan, "Only you can prevent wildfires." Two posters from each grade are selected to be submitted to the district level for consideration. Winning posters then progress to the state level, regional level, and finally to the national level, where one poster is chosen as the national winner.
Mrs. Blake's student entry was selected to compete with other fifth-grade students in District 6 of the Federated Garden Clubs of NY State, Inc. In the spring, the President and Vice President of the Sherrill Garden Club will present certificates to Reese and other students who submitted posters.
